Photons transmitted through a medium of many radiators can show cooperative effects that go beyond simply adding up independent contributions. Using methods from quantum transport theory, this paper finds a cross-over in how the transmitted current scales with the number of radiators — from linear to quadratic, and even higher powers in the higher cumulants of the photon counting statistics — as a function of the source occupation.
